MAYOR JERRY TREÑAS BACKTRACKS, NEW TRANSPORT RULES SUSPENDED IN ILOILO CITY AMIDST MOUNTING COMPLAINTS
The controversial restructuring of public transport routes as embodied in Iloilo City Regulation Ordinance 2022-027 were “temporarily suspended” by Mayor Jerry Treñas effective July 8, 2022.
Treñas issued Executive Order 001, series of 2022 on July 1 putting on hold the implementation of the Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP).
Provisions of Regulation Ordinance 2022-027 were based on the LPTRP, as approved earlier by the Department of Transportation.
In his order Treñas acknowledged “the necessity to make appropriate adjustments in the implementation of the LPTRP through additional public consultation to all stakeholders”.
The order set a period of 45 days starting July 8 for the public consultation, after which “the Sangguniang Panlungsod is encouraged to make the necessary amendments to Regulation Ordinance 2022-027”.
