“Pero madayon gid ini,” says Mayor Raul Banias of Concepcion, Iloilo
CONCEPCION, ILOILO – Construction work on the much awaited Fishport Rehabilitation Project in this town costing about P280-million (US5.5-million dollars) is expected to begin soon.
Mayor Raul Banias announced today that the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will implement the project through the Province of Iloilo, following the three failed international biddings.
KOICA Country Director in the Philippines Mr. Sang-back Lee and Program Manager Francis Afable met here earlier today with Mayor Banias, Vice Mayor Milliard Villanueva and other Concepcion officials for initial talks prior to meeting with Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. for the terms on local procurement.
Mayor Banias noted that KOICA’s decision to opt for local procurement could hasten implementation of the Fishport project.
The facility is seen to further enhance the town’s role as trade and livelihood hub in Northern Iloilo. Concepcion also hosts the coal-fired power plant operated by Palm Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC).
