PANAY-GUIMARAS-NEGROS (PGN) BRIDGE PROJECT MERITS MENTION IN JULY 24 SONA OF MARCOS JR.
The proposed P180 billion bridge project which the Duterte administration committed but failed to start before its term expired in 2022 has merited a passing mention in the second State Of the Nation Address (SONA) of Pres. Ferdinand Maros Jr. (FMJr).
Marcos vowed to pursue the PGN bridge project as part of the administration’s major infrastructure development program.
On April 5, 2022 the Korean Eximbank approved a US$56.6 million loan for the detailed engineering design (DED) of the project.
Later last year, Congress also passed an appropriation bill of P950 million as counterpart funding, according to Guimaras Gov. Rahman Nava whose wife Rep. Lucille sits as member of the House appropriations committee.
On March 1, 2023 DPWH Sec. Manuel Bonoan through Special Order No. 49 created a Review Team and Technical Working Group for the DED of the PNG bridge project.
