BACOLOD CITY – Valladolid Mayor Enrique “Bebot” Miravalles edged out Mayor Jilson Tubillara of San Enrique town by 10-9 votes to win as president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Negros Occidental chapter.
Miravalles was supported by the multiparty coalition, “Love Negros,” while Tubillara got the backing of the United Negros Alliance (UNEGA), also a multiparty coalition here.
Negros Occ. is composed of 19 municipalities and 13 cities.
The LMP Negros Occ. chapter were the last to hold elections among provinces in Western Visayas. LMP chapters in Panay and Guimaras held elections in July and August.
In Iloilo, Mayor Trixie Fernandez of San Enrique won a similarly close 20 to 18 votes over Mayor Jett Rojas of Ajuy town.
LMP Capiz chapter elected as president Mayor Leodegario Labao of Mambusao; Mayor Jo-en Miraflores of Ibajay is the new LMP Aklan chapter president; and Mayor Mary Jean Nicopior-Te of Libertad leads the LMP Antique as chapter president.
Guimaras mayors elected Mayor Emmanuel Galila of Nueva Valencia as LMP Guimaras chapter president. /jft
