ILOILO PORK PRICES REMAIN HIGH DESPITE ASF: VOLUME DOWN BY 62% SAYS PROV’L VETERINARIAN
Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Darel Tabuada said this week that as of May 8, the province has 104,411 swine heads from the 277,421 inventory in September 2022 or before cases of the ASF were recorded here.
“If we based on the report of the Department of Agriculture, before the ASF we are 289 percent sufficient. So we still have an excess of 189 percent that time, which we shipped to Luzon,” Tabuada said as quoted in the PNA report
The drop in live hogs inventory is seen as a main driver of high pork prices in Iloilo, now ranging from P285 to P310 per kilogram. But Tabuada pointed out that Iloilo remains self sufficient of pork products.
