Bus and jeepney fares were adjusted nationwide effective today, May 16, 2020.
Richard Z. Osmena, regional director for Western Visayas of the LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board) told a radio interview yesterday that fares for traditional jeepney would start at P9 for the first 4 kilometers.
Modernized jeepneys are authorized to charge P11 for the first 4KM and P1.50 for each succeeding kilometer, the same rate with traditional jeepneys.
Non-air-conditioned buses, on the other hand, are authorized to charge P11 for the first 4KM and P1.85 for each succeeding kilometer, Director Osmena said.
Air-conditioned buses, on the other hand are authorized to charge P13 for the first 4KM and P2.20 for each succeeding kilometer, according to Osmena.
The fare rate increase is in consideration of rules limiting the volume of passengers by 50% for each carrier and an initial 25% of vehicles allowed on the road.
Land transportation in Panay and Negros resume in phases beginning this week as the region gradually exits regulations under the general community quarantine (GCQ).
The limitations, Osmena said were meant to enforce physical distancing in the public land transportation sector.*
