E-JEEPNEYS: ELECTRIC VEHICLES ON TEST RUN FOR UP TO 3 MONTHS STARTING THIS FEBRUARY IN ILOILO CITY
Engr. Rowen Gelonga, regional director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) presented early this week to Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas 2 of the 10 electricity-run version of modernized jeepneys.
“It will be a more comprehensive test. We look not only at their chemical performance but also feasibility on financial aspect. If found to be profitable then we could go full blast in promoting these as part of the modernized PUVs in Iloilo City,” he said.
The test run initially would be confined along the Tagbak, Jaro terminal to Iloilo City Proper route, according to Engr. Gelonga.
He said Iloilo City is also one of their target areas for developing fast-charging stations for e-jeeps in partnership with the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
“We hope this will be reintegrated in the program of UNDP and DOTr to promote the use of electric vehicles in the public transport system,” he added. (with PNA)
