TREÑAS SULKS AS NGCP DOWNPLAYS MAYOR’S CALL FOR HIGH LEVEL MEET ON POWER BLACKOUTS
“I asked the NGCP representative, a lawyer to leave. He is not qualified to explain to me the situation of the transmission lines. They do not respect me as mayor of Iloilo City,” Treñas said in a statement.
The NGCP (National Grid Corporation of the Philippines) president, along with MORE Power officials were supposed to meet with Treñas today to clarify the issues on successive blackouts in the region.
Roel Castro, MORE President came to the Iloilo City Mayor’s office along with the distribution utility’s top brass. The NGCP president sent a lawyer.
Meanwhile, Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla said the outages in Panay and Negros over the past weeks were due to the inadequacies in the transmission system, ABS-CBN News reported on Tuesday, May 9.
“DOE Undersecretary Rowena Guevara also said had the NGCP finished the Mindanao Visayas interconnection project (MVIP), Mindanao could have helped as only 70 percent of its supply is used.
“Guevara says the MVIP could have transported 450MW during that time which is more than enough to cover the 250MW deficiency at that time.
“Lotilla says the ERC has already finished its performance evaluation of NGCP but he has no details yet about this,” the report added.
